Families living near pub claim drinkers urinate on their homes

Residents near a pub in Penarth have voiced their concerns about alleged antisocial behaviour, including patrons urinating on their homes. The issue was raised during a meeting at the Vale of Glamorgan Council where The Golden Lion pub sought approval to extend its operating hours on certain days. While the pub’s manager, Paul Harper, assured that the extension would be limited to specific events, residents fear it could worsen existing problems.

Pat Groves, a long-time resident living next to the pub, highlighted the disturbances caused by noise levels and behaviour from pubgoers. He expressed concerns that extending the pub’s hours could exacerbate the situation. Other residents, such as Bethan Thomas and Natasha Jones, echoed these sentiments, mentioning instances of feeling intimidated and encountering unruly behaviour, including smoking and littering outside the pub.

Despite acknowledging the positive changes made by the pub’s management, residents conveyed unease about noise disturbances, late-night activities, and challenges in addressing issues with the pub. The residents emphasised their right to feel safe in their neighbourhood and shared experiences of encountering uncomfortable situations due to the pub’s clientele’s behaviour.

While the pub management addressed some concerns, including cleanliness and external activities, residents highlighted ongoing challenges and the impact on their daily lives. They stressed the importance of creating a safe and peaceful environment for all residents, especially families with young children.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is yet to announce a decision regarding The Golden Lion’s licensing application. Residents are hopeful that their concerns will be addressed to ensure a harmonious coexistence between the pub and the local community. Building a proactive dialogue between residents and the pub management could be crucial in finding mutually beneficial solutions to maintain peace and order in the neighbourhood.
