Ex-Abercrombie & Fitch boss and British partner facing sex trafficking charges
Former fashion giant Abercrombie & Fitch’s ex-chief executive, Mike Jeffries, along with his British partner, Matthew Smith, have been arrested on charges of sex trafficking. According to a spokesman for federal prosecutors in the US, Jeffries, Smith, and a third man, Jim Jacobson, were all taken into custody on Tuesday morning. The trio is accused of sexually exploiting young men at parties held in the US and other countries.
Lawyers representing Jeffries and Smith have vehemently denied any accusations of wrongdoing in the past. Brad Edwards, a lawyer from Edwards Henderson law firm, who is representing some of the alleged victims in this case, emphasized the importance of this arrest in seeking justice for the exploited young men. He mentioned that their firm represents all the victims in a class-action lawsuit filed against Jeffries and Smith.
The allegations suggest that Abercrombie & Fitch was used to facilitate a sophisticated sex trafficking operation, making this case one of the most organised in US history. The three defendants are set to appear in federal courts in Florida and Wisconsin before the case is eventually transferred to the eastern district of New York.
The arrest of these high-profile individuals marks a significant step towards holding accountable those responsible for such despicable acts of exploitation and abuse. The victims involved can now see progress towards justice being served.
