Essential Track Maintenance to Close Severn Tunnel, Causing Rail Service Disruptions

Rail services are expected to face disruptions during the closure of the Severn Tunnel for essential track maintenance. The tunnel, which serves as a crucial link between Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire, will be closed from 9th to 18th June and on 25th June.

As a result, trains traveling between London and South Wales will be diverted between Swindon and Newport, and they will not make stops at Bristol Parkway. Additionally, Patchway and Pilning stations will not be served during this period.

Network Rail will be focusing on restoring one line of track from the English end of the tunnel as part of the operation. To mitigate the impact on passengers, replacement bus services will be provided between Bristol Parkway and Newport.

A spokesperson for Network Rail advised customers to check the website for the latest information before embarking on their journeys. Moreover, on 10th and 11th June, trains between London and South Wales will be unable to utilize the alternative route. Therefore, buses will be arranged to replace trains between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central during that weekend.

Passengers are encouraged to stay updated with the travel arrangements and plan accordingly for any potential disruptions caused by the essential maintenance work on the Severn Tunnel.
