Hundreds of pupils have been sent home after a case of coronavirus was confirmed at Wales’ largest secondary school.
All Year 11 pupils were sent home from Whitchurch High School in Cardiff after school officials were notified of a positive case on Monday morning (October 12). The students were not immediately asked to self isolate.
Instead, the school said it was sending pupils home as a “precaution” while it implemented contact tracing protocols. In a statement sent to parents and carers, headteacher Mark Powell said: “We have this morning been notified of a positive covid case in Year 11.
“As a precaution we are going to send Year 11 home for today to allow us time to implement contact tracing protocols. We will update you later today with further information.”
The year group are due to sit their GCSEs this summer, and Wales education minister Kirsty Williams has said she will be making an announcement about those exams at the end of the month.
