The Home Office reported that 317 migrants arrived in the UK in just five boats on a single day, with the total number of Channel crossings so far this year reaching 21,720.
New measures have been suggested to address the issue, including a proposed UK-EU migration treaty to tackle illegal crossings. However, Downing Street has dismissed this approach, opting to work with European partners to dismantle smuggling networks.
