Early stage plans launched for new Port Talbot Primary school

Plans for a new “net zero” primary school in Port Talbot have been unveiled as part of early-stage consultations with the local community. The proposed school is set to replace the existing Rhosafan Primary School in Sandfields, Port Talbot. Consultants from Asbri Planning, acting on behalf of Neath Port Talbot Council, have submitted the plans, aiming for a sustainable and modern educational facility.

The current Rhosafan Primary School, situated in the residential area of Sandfields near Aberavon Beach, is earmarked for demolition to make way for the new school, which will include a sports pitch, play facilities, parking, and other associated works. The proposed school is anticipated to accommodate up to 420 pupils aged three to eleven, 90 nursery pupils, and 12 places for additional learning needs. Additionally, it will feature a Welsh immersion unit and a “Winter Garden” for flexible learning spaces.

The new school, strategically located around 2.5 kilometres from Port Talbot town centre, is designed with a carbon net-zero approach, focusing on optimal energy efficiency.
