The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has introduced a new method for claiming Attendance Allowance, a financial aid for individuals receiving State Pension and living with a disability. This service, which can provide up to £108 per week, is now available for online applications. Previously, the 1.6 million people claiming this benefit had to apply through other means.
The DWP has announced that the new online system will have limited capacity, with only a set number of applications being accepted each week. Additionally, applicants will only be able to utilise the service on Mondays. Those interested in claiming Attendance Allowance online must ensure they apply early in the week as the number of applications processed online is restricted.
Furthermore, individuals acting as appointees or with power of attorney are ineligible to use this service due to ongoing developments in the online application process. Applicants are notified when attempting to use the service that only a limited number of applications can be accepted each week, and more slots will open up every Monday.
It’s important for claimants to have all necessary information at hand when applying online, as the form cannot be saved halfway through completion. Additionally, applicants may be contacted via telephone for further details, as the service’s beta version does not currently support additional evidence submission.
Attendance Allowance is intended for those requiring additional assistance due to long-term health conditions such as arthritis, dementia, or heart disease. To check eligibility, individuals are advised to refer to the official guidance on the GOV.UK website. Common conditions of claimants include arthritis, dementia, heart disease, respiratory illnesses, and muscular or skeletal disorders.
The DWP’s initiative aims to streamline the process of claiming this essential financial support for individuals with disabilities, offering a more convenient and efficient way to access crucial benefits.
