Dramatic moment police use chainsaw to go into house as they launch drugs operation

Police executed seven drug warrants in Newport during the early hours of Thursday morning, resulting in the dramatic use of a chainsaw to enter one property. Around 35 officers from various teams, including serious and organised crime, the neighbourhood policing team, and roads policing and support operations, participated in the warrants on October 24. The warrants were carried out at Caerau Road, Lysaght Way, Hillside Crescent, Rogerstone, Alma Street, Bassaleg Road, Bailey Street, and Broadwood Close. Four men, aged 26, 27, 29, and 36, from the Newport area are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of offences, including conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Detective Inspector Ian Bartholomew from Gwent Police’s serious and organised crime unit stated that these warrants were part of continued efforts to combat drug-related issues in the community. Bartholomew stressed the commitment of the police force to stand with the community against individuals who exploit the vulnerable. The seized drugs are under analysis, but initial findings suggest the involvement of the suspects in the supply of Class A drugs.

Significant amounts of cash, along with other items believed to be criminal property, were recovered during the operation. The police are still counting the seized cash. Bartholomew expressed gratitude towards all officers involved in the operation, emphasising the collective effort to tackle serious and organised crime, highlighting the detrimental effects of drug-dealing on society.

The successful execution of the warrants and the subsequent arrests demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to safeguard the community against the scourge of drugs. The coordinated efforts of the various police teams reflect a proactive approach to tackling drug-related crimes in Newport. As investigations continue and evidence is analysed, the impact of these operations on drug supply chains will unfold, contributing to a safer environment for residents.
