Dog Owners Prioritize Pet Health Over Their Own, Study Reveals
Most dog owners prioritize the health and happiness of their pets over their own well-being, according to a recent poll. The study found that 7 in 10 dog owners are more concerned about their pet’s health and happiness than their own. Additionally, 43 percent of respondents admitted that they would only feed their dog food that they would eat themselves.
Here are some key findings from the poll:
- 79% of dog owners prioritize giving plenty of cuddles to ensure their dog’s happiness.
- 77% believe belly rubs are essential for their furry companions.
- 75% ensure their dogs receive healthy treats for their overall well-being.
- 73% prioritize their dogs’ exercise needs over their own health.
Interestingly, there is a significant difference in how quickly people seek medical help for themselves compared to their pets. On average, respondents stated they would wait 8 days to see a doctor for a non-life-threatening condition, but only 3 days to book a vet appointment for their pet.
The research, conducted by dog food brand Butternut Box, highlighted that 29% of dog owners are unaware of the necessary nutrients for their dog’s health. Reasons for this lack of knowledge include a limited understanding of a healthy dog diet (34%) and insufficient time to research different food options (27%).
While 30% of respondents recently considered their dog’s food choices, the survey revealed that most prioritize their dog’s enjoyment (47%) over nutritional value (41%) when selecting food. To educate pet parents on healthy dog diets, Butternut Box constructed an edible house for dogs made from fresh food in Sherwood Pines.
David Nolan, co-founder of Butternut Box, emphasized the importance of providing dogs with the right balance of vitamins and minerals through fresh ingredients for optimal health and vitality. He stated, “We are on a mission to deliver health and happiness to dogs everywhere by changing dog food for good. By feeding fresh ingredients, it can help provide the right balance of vitamins and minerals for dogs of every age.”
This study sheds light on the deep bond between dog owners and their pets, highlighting the lengths to which owners go to ensure the well-being of their beloved furry companions. It also underscores the importance of understanding and providing a nutritious diet for dogs to support their overall health and happiness.
