Delays Anticipated for Newly Constructed Schools in Bridgend
Several modernization projects set to take place in schools across Bridgend county borough are expected to face delays, as per council reports. These delays were part of the council’s capital spending programme adjustments approved earlier this year, postponing the start of the projects until the 2025-26 financial year. Key points regarding the delays are as follows:
– The building of five new schools in the area will be delayed until April 2025 at the earliest.
– Plans to relocate Heronsbridge School to a new £22m site on Island Farm have been pushed back pending Welsh Government approval.
– Proposals for a new-build school in Kenfig Hill worth approximately £9m, including the demolition of Mynydd Cynffig Junior School, have also been delayed.
– Similarly, other projects such as a replacement school at Ysgol Bro Ogwr and new sites at Afon y Felin and Ysgol y Ferch o’r Sgêr will be delayed.
– Additionally, over £3m worth of highways works related to the school modernization programme will be set back.
These delays were agreed upon in a full council meeting held in July as part of an update on the council’s capital programme. The meeting also discussed the addition of several projects to the programme, including funding for waste vehicles, coal tip safety, a flying start childcare facility in Nantymoel, grants for children with additional learning needs, and refurbishment of sports courts in Maesteg Welfare Park and Caedu Park.
