One dad in Wales has truly embraced the spirit of Christmas by creating a spectacular holiday display that only costs 20p per hour to run. Liam Owen, 32, has transformed his front garden in Wattstown, Rhondda into a winter wonderland of festive inflatables, setting the perfect scene for the upcoming Christmas season.
Owen, a father of three, shared that he starts decorating the inside of his house after Halloween and then moves on to the outside following bonfire night. The decorations, which include a variety of inflatables, light up the Owen family home from 10.30am to 10.30pm daily. His 18-month-old son particularly enjoys the display, with Owen and his partner Stephanie Wyatt happily spending hours admiring the decorations alongside their children.
Having been decorating in this manner for eight years, Owen estimates that he has spent around £600 on the outdoor inflatables. Despite the impressive display, he mentioned that it only costs them approximately 20p per hour to keep it running, making it an affordable and festive endeavour for the family. While Owen’s older children, aged 11 and 13, also appreciate the decorations, he acknowledged that his teenage child may not be as enthusiastic as before.
The heartwarming Christmas display has not gone unnoticed by their community either. Owen shared that neighbours have visited with their kids to take photos, while passersby often slow down to admire the festive spectacle. The display, consisting of various themed inflatables such as Santa riding a polar bear, has undoubtedly brought joy and festive cheer to the neighbourhood.
As the holiday season approaches, many look forward to the joy and magic that Christmas decorations bring. In the case of Liam Owen and his family, their creative and cost-effective display serves as a reminder of the simple but powerful joy that festive decorations can bring to both young and old alike. Ultimately, it is gestures like these that truly embody the spirit of Christmas and spread happiness within the community.
