Dad-to-be makes £7,000 selling cocaine and will miss child’s birth
A man, who is about to become a father, has confessed to earning £7,000 by selling cocaine after police discovered incriminating messages on his phone. Corrie Morgan, aged 27, admitted to dealing drugs to support his own addiction. The authorities caught him when they seized a phone from a vehicle outside a property in Rhymney, Caerphilly, on March 26. On the phone were several texts from Morgan promoting cocaine sales between March 12 and 22.
During a sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Morgan was apprehended on July 24 after being identified. A search of his residence uncovered £1,250 hidden in a North Face coat. Further scrutiny of his bank account indicated that £14,159 had been deposited between December 2023 and May 2024. Morgan could not provide a plausible explanation for the money. Prosecution mentioned that Morgan had two prior convictions, including one for intending to supply cocaine.
In court, Morgan pleaded guilty to being involved in the distribution of Class A drugs. His defense attorney, Jeffrey Jones, explained that his client and his partner were expecting a child in the coming year. However, it was acknowledged that Morgan’s imprisonment would prevent him from being present for the birth, which deeply saddened him. Jones also highlighted that not all funds in Morgan’s account were solely from drug transactions.
Recorder Barry Clarke sentenced Morgan to three years and four months in prison. He is expected to serve half of the sentence in custody before being released on license for the remaining period. This case sheds light on the impact of drug addiction and the consequences of illegal activities on personal lives and relationships.
