Dad Discovers Affordable Way to Take Son to Legoland Denmark for £100, Including Flights
Many parents dream of treating their children to exciting holidays but are often put off by the high costs associated with flights, hotels, and activities. However, one resourceful father of three has shared his experience of planning a trip to Legoland Denmark for just £100 per person.
Al Reid, 36, shared his enthusiasm for travel and Lego, stating, “I love to travel, something I now enjoy sharing with my kids. The last few years have shown me that we can’t take anything for granted, so we should make the most of our time together. We all love Lego, so this trip was a special treat for my son’s 10th birthday.”
Al, who works at an optician and documents his travels on Instagram at @treks.where.next, was determined to make the trip affordable. To his surprise, the cost of the trip to Legoland Denmark turned out to be even cheaper than visiting Legoland in the UK. He shared, “I’m always on the lookout for bargains. When I found flights from our local airport to Billund for only £30, it made perfect sense for my son’s birthday.”
Initially concerned about the high costs associated with Lego tourism in the area, Al discovered a direct bus from the airport to the nearby town of Vejle, offering more affordable accommodation options. Opting for an Airbnb at £38 for the night, Al emphasised the importance of booking park entry tickets in advance to save money.
By utilising a website called ‘Tiqets,’ Al managed to secure park entry for himself and his son at a discounted rate, saving between 25% and 30%. Additionally, keeping an eye out for special offers like a 2-for-1 entry deal allowed him to further reduce costs.
Al highlighted the benefits of staying slightly further away from the main tourist sites, explaining, “Staying further afield was the biggest saving. The main Lego hotel can be as much as £500 for a night. We didn’t mind the walk from the bus station to our accommodation as it allowed us to explore the picturesque Danish town of Vejle.”
Despite the affordable nature of their trip, Al and his son thoroughly enjoyed their time at Legoland Denmark, exploring the various rides, impressive Lego models, and the charming town of Vejle. Al expressed his delight at the quality time spent with his son, describing the experience as “brilliant.”
Offering advice to other parents looking to plan similar budget-friendly trips, Al recommended being flexible with travel dates and accommodation choices to find the best deals. He also advised travellers to research transport options and consider alternative airports for potential savings.
Emphasising the importance of thorough research and staying connected with online travel communities for the latest deals, Al encouraged families to embark on affordable adventures and create lasting memories with their loved ones.
The story of Al’s cost-effective trip to Legoland Denmark serves as a testament to the joy and value of family travel experiences, proving that memorable holidays need not come with a hefty price tag.
