Tragedy struck at a beloved beauty spot in Pontsarn, Merthyr Tydfil, as a devoted father lost his life in a tragic accident in front of his six-year-old daughter. Phillip Hill, a decorator, fell around 20ft into a pond at the Blue Pool or Pwll Glas on October 27. He was trying to retrieve a tree branch for his daughter when he slipped and fell into the water.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded as other visitors heard the young girl’s cries for help and alerted emergency services. Despite their efforts, 48-year-old Mr. Hill was found lifeless in the water by paramedics. The Pontypridd Coroner’s Court later identified Mr. Hill, of Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, and pronounced him dead at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding Mr. Hill’s death were deemed unnatural by Senior Coroner Graeme Hughes, prompting the opening of an inquest to investigate further. Messages of condolence were extended to the family and friends of Mr. Hill as the inquest was adjourned to a later date for additional evidence to be gathered.
