A devastating incident unfolded in Wales when a cyclist was left with severe injuries after being struck by a driver who callously continued to drive with the bicycle wedged under the car. The driver, Jonathan Casey, aged 41, was driving without a licence or insurance, and was disqualified from driving when the incident occurred in Thomastown, near Tonyrefail. The victim, Michael Crawford, was riding along Francis Street when Casey’s car collided with the bicycle, causing Crawford to be thrown eight feet in the air before landing on a footpath. Despite the collision, Casey heartlessly drove on for three-quarters of a mile with the bicycle still attached to the front of his car.
Casey was later arrested at his home in Bridgend, where it was revealed that he was a heroin user. The consequences of his actions were significant, as Mr. Crawford sustained multiple injuries including a fractured spine and skull, broken ribs, a broken ankle, and various other fractures. In light of the circumstances, Judge Shomon Khan handed down a sentence of eight months imprisonment, coupled with a disqualification from driving for four years and four months.
