Cruise passengers urged to avoid this one item of clothing

Cruise passengers have been given a friendly reminder by PandO Cruises regarding a particular dress code rule. The cruise line highlighted the importance of adhering to this rule to ensure smooth entry into dinner reservations during select formal nights. While PandO Cruises generally has a relaxed dress code, there are certain evenings designated as “black-tie” nights, where guests are expected to dress elegantly in cocktail dresses, tuxedos, ball gowns, suits, or smart jackets with ties. On the other hand, “evening casual” nights permit passengers to wear smart shirts, dark jeans, and casual separates, avoiding tracksuits.

However, one particular item of clothing that passengers should steer clear of during formal events is tailored shorts. These shorts are prohibited in all areas except the buffet during black-tie events, and only specific venues allow them on casual evenings. Despite efforts to pair the shorts with polished shirts and designer footwear, some individuals have been turned away from formal dining events for not adhering to the dress code. One such incident involved a passenger who was refused entry to the main dining room on the Celebrity Equinox for wearing nice shorts with a collared polo shirt.

Etiquette expert Grant Harrold emphasized the importance of dressing appropriately aboard cruise ships. Harrold stated that passengers should be mindful of the dress codes for formal and casual evenings, which may range from jeans and t-shirts to black-tie attire or national dress. While tailored shorts may not be suitable for formal evenings, passengers can still don them during daytime activities, alongside typical holiday attire like t-shirts, shorts, and sundresses, ensuring shoes are worn away from the pool and avoiding pool wear in certain ship areas like lounges and restaurants.

PandO also advises wearing flat shoes for walks on deck and dressing in light layers for cooler evenings onboard. For excursions ashore, passengers are reminded to consider cultural sensitivities, especially in religious buildings where covering up may be required. Apart from tailored shorts, other restricted clothing items onboard include fancy dress, novelty clothing, or outfits with inappropriate or offensive language or images, which are not permitted. Passengers are encouraged to adhere to the dress code to avoid being denied embarkation, except during official PandO Cruises theme nights where dressing according to the theme is welcomed.

As winter cruise getaways beckon British holidaymakers with promises of onboard dining and cultural experiences, following these dress code guidelines can ensure a smooth and enjoyable sailing experience. Remembering to dress appropriately for each occasion, whether it be a formal dinner or a casual evening, contributes to a pleasant atmosphere for all passengers aboard the cruise.
