Fire crews have been battling a fire on a mountain in north Wales. North Wales Fire and Rescue service said they received a “large” number of calls reporting a mountain fire near Dwygyfylchi in Conwy county above the A55 road on Tuesday evening, August 20.
On Wednesday, August 21, emergency services remain at the scene and have warned people to “keep away” from the area while they deal with the incident, reports North Wales Live. There are currently no details on the extent of the damage to the area or the cause.
In a new statement on Wednesday morning, a spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said, “We were called to a mountainside fire above the A55 in Dwygyfylchi, Penmaenmawr last night – the initial call was received at 7.27 pm [on Tuesday]. Currently, four crews are in attendance tackling the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at present. We would like to thank people for contacting us to inform us of the fire and ask everyone to keep away from the area while we tackle the fire.”
Meanwhile, people who live and work near the fire have been doing their best to help. Sam Brookshaw, the grounds manager at Lyons Pendyffryn Hall Caravan Park in Dwygyfylchi, was alerted to the fire in woods above the park on Tuesday evening. Ms Brookshaw and the park’s bar manager, Ben Nicholls, said that they had offered firefighters a room in their reception building for them to plan how they would tackle the fire, as well as some showering facilities and refreshments.
Speaking of the emergency service’s work, she said: “They were very informative, reassuring, and professional.”
