A police officer from Gwent Police is currently on trial, facing accusations of making degrading sexual comments towards women he encountered while on duty. Luke Silver, aged 33, allegedly visited the homes of these women uninvited, with one instance involving him pretending to be a gas man while visiting a woman’s home a year after their last interaction. The women have claimed that Silver asked them explicit questions regarding their sexual preferences, including inquiring about their sex lives and making inappropriate comments about their bodies.
During a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that the alleged victims were left feeling upset and distressed by Silver’s behaviour. The allegations came to light in July 2022, after one of the complainants reported an incident where the officer visited her home under false pretences. It’s reported that Silver engaged in inappropriate conversations, asking personal questions about the woman’s intimate life and making further unwanted advances.
Prosecutor Roger Griffiths detailed an incident where Silver allegedly accessed a police log in relation to one of the complainants a day before visiting her property. The court also heard testimony from a woman who claimed Silver engaged in explicit sexual conversations with her, causing her to feel fearful of his behaviour. She even went as far as installing a Ring doorbell camera to monitor his visits and eventually withdrew an allegation she made to prevent him from coming to her home.
The trial further brought to light another incident where Silver allegedly made unwanted sexual comments to a woman, invading her personal space and asking inappropriate questions. Several voicemails sent by the complainant to a friend referred to the defendant as a “creepy police officer.” The prosecution alleges that Silver misused his position and access to police resources for improper gains, participating in activities beyond the scope of his duty.
In response to the allegations, Silver has pleaded not guilty to three counts of improper use of police power and three counts related to unauthorized access of data. Despite the pleas, the court proceedings continue as testimonies from the alleged victims shed light on the distressing experiences they faced at the hands of the accused officer.
