Concertgoers complain about ‘overcrowded’ open-air gig in Cardiff

Concertgoers in Cardiff Bay voiced their disappointment and raised concerns following the Becky Hill concert held on the bank holiday weekend. The event, part of The Bay Series featuring various artists, drew thousands of attendees to watch the performance. However, some attendees expressed dissatisfaction with what they perceived as overcrowding and mismanagement.

After the event, social media platforms buzzed with complaints from attendees. Reports suggested that the event setup was alarming, with one person noting the presence of “too many people to be safe.” VIP ticket holders also shared their discontent, citing issues with queuing and unclear directions.

Emma Upchurch from Pontypridd attended the concert and highlighted the stark difference from the previous year’s event. She mentioned overcrowding near the stage and witnessed individuals being crushed, leading to safety concerns. Concerns were also raised about poor management compared to past Bay Series events.

Linda Jones, another attendee, purchased VIP tickets for herself and her daughter. The duo faced challenging queues upon arrival and found the designated VIP area lacking appropriate facilities. Linda expressed disappointment with the seating arrangement and lack of sufficient amenities.

In response to the criticisms, event organisers detailed their provisions, including portable toilets and urinal spaces meeting industry standards. They acknowledged the long toilet queues during the event and promptly addressed the issue for efficiency. Organisers assured compliance with health and safety protocols throughout the concert.

The feedback from disappointed concertgoers underscores the importance of adequate planning and execution for large-scale events. With attendees voicing concerns over safety and logistical issues, organisers must prioritise crowd management and ensure a positive experience for all future events hosted at the venue.
