City Pool and Gym to Stay Closed Longer Due to Power Outage
Cardiff International Pool and Gym will not reopen until Monday, September 30, as efforts to address a power outage issue were not completed in time. The facility was initially shut down after a power failure revealed a significant problem requiring infrastructure work. Parkwood Leisure, the operators, had initially indicated a reopening at the beginning of the week (starting Monday, September 23). However, on Tuesday, September 24, customers were informed that the closure would extend until Monday, September 30.
Affected patrons have been advised that they can utilize sites in the Vale of Glamorgan, such as Penarth Leisure Centre, which will open its gym from 6 am to accommodate pool users. Parkwood Leisure released a statement saying, “Following the power outage at the venue last week, our Contractors have continued to work through the weekend to resolve the issue. Whilst good progress has been made, unfortunately it seems that full power will not be restored until later this week, with a full reopening of the venue estimated to be on Monday, September 30, 2024.”
The statement continued, “We apologise for the inconvenience that this is causing but we continue to provide our Vale of Glamorgan sites to enable you to meet your health and fitness needs. Please remember Penarth Leisure Centre is less than a mile away and the staff are happy to welcome you. They will also now be opening the gym earlier, from 6 am, to cater for our Cardiff International Pool customers needs.”
Parkwood Leisure expressed their commitment to addressing any concerns and assured members that they would receive details about their direct debit costs to avoid any losses during the closure. They encouraged customers to visit their website or Facebook page for regular updates.
The extended closure of the Cardiff International Pool and Gym has been met with understanding from the public, with many appreciating the proactive measures taken to ensure continued access to fitness amenities during this temporary inconvenience. Patrons eagerly await the reopening on Monday, September 30, and are grateful for the supportive services provided by Parkwood Leisure at alternative locations in the meantime.
