The tragic story of a man brutally murdered with a knife over a drug debt has left his children asking when they will “see their daddy again”. Daniel Rae, aged 30, was fatally stabbed four times in the leg by Kieran Carter, 23, at his home in Treforest, Pontypridd. Carter had gone to Mr. Rae’s residence to collect a drug debt and the altercation resulted in Mr. Rae suffering a fatal injury to an artery in his leg, leading to his death. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Carter was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years. Another individual, Chad Joy, 33, received a nine-month suspended sentence for assisting an offender, while Amy Jones, 37, received a suspended sentence of 10 months for perverting the course of justice.
During a sentencing hearing, Mr. Rae’s father, Anthony Rae, expressed the deep pain and grief the family has been enduring since the loss of their son. He described the torment of losing a son in such “horrific circumstances” and the devastating impact it has had on the family.
In a heartfelt statement to the court, Mr. Rae’s mother Adele Webster recounted the moment when she had to explain to her son’s children that their father had been killed. The children, aged six, eight, 10, and 11, are struggling to comprehend the loss of their father and repeatedly ask when they will be able to see him again. Adele highlighted Daniel’s love for his children and his aspirations in life, expressing regret that Daniel would never be able to achieve his dreams.
The parents of Mr. Rae revealed the profound impact the loss has had on their lives, with mornings and evenings being particularly painful as they come to terms with the reality of never seeing their son again. The emotional turmoil they experience on a daily basis is described as visceral, with waves of panic and distress overshadowing their lives. They emphasised how the tragic event has changed their outlook on life, making them more cautious and fearful for the impact on their grandchildren.
The family’s harrowing experience serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the long-lasting effects it has on loved ones left behind. The story of Daniel Rae’s untimely death is a poignant reminder of the need for justice and support for victims of crime and their families.
