Cheesecake beats Victoria sponge as Brits’ favourite teatime treat. A survey of 2,000 adults crowned cheesecake as the top choice, with chocolate cake and carrot cake following close behind. The survey revealed a trend towards international dessert influences, with doughnuts and banoffee pie also making the top 30 treats list. SPAR initiated the research in support of charity fundraising, finding that 49% of individuals aged 18-34 are passionate about baking at home. Generational differences in cake preferences were also highlighted, with younger generations more active in baking. The study showed that baking is enjoyed for relaxation and special occasions. Sharing cake with loved ones is deemed important by many, with 72% believing it is a comforting way to connect with others.
