Another Cardiff Restaurant Announces Closure Due To Struggle Amid Cost of Living Crisis

The renowned Brass Beetle, a popular Cardiff restaurant situated in the heart of the Heath area since 2017, has announced its permanent closure. In a heartfelt statement on Wednesday, January 10, the establishment, known for its delectable pizza and cocktails, cited the “challenging” issues plaguing the hospitality industry as the reason for shutting its doors on Saturday, January 27.

This closure follows a series of recent shutdowns by independent businesses in the Welsh capital, underscoring the ongoing impact of the cost of living crisis. Among them were Alex Gooch bakeries in Canton and Radyr, which faced closure, with owner Alex Gooch attributing the decision to an “astronomically high” rise in energy prices.

The Brass Beetle staff, in a poignant post on their Instagram page, expressed that the decision was not made lightly. They extended gratitude to the patrons who made their years memorable and emphasized the significance of supporting local independent businesses. The post read, “We have come to the almost impossible decision to close down the Brass Beetle at the end of the month. This is not a decision we have taken lightly but is due to the challenging issues facing the hospitality industry.”

The announcement adds to the recent closures of other respected independent hospitality businesses in Cardiff, including The Conway pub in Pontcanna and Kindle in Sophia Gardens, both attributing their closures to financial difficulties within the industry.

As The Brass Beetle prepares to bid farewell, they invite the community to join them in celebrating the years of memories on their last day of service on Saturday, January 27, encouraging continued support for local independent establishments during these challenging times.
