Cannabis Gardeners Caught with £50,000 of Drug Crop
Two gardeners, Anduen Spahiu (20) and Reols Havalja (26), were found tending to a cannabis factory in Bedwas, Caerphilly. Here’s what happened:
– Police discovered 10kg of cannabis worth up to £50,000 loaded into a van.
– The remnants of a cannabis factory with ventilation, lights, and fans were found in a nearby house.
– Officers acted after receiving reports of a man taking cannabis from a property.
– A significant amount of cannabis, bagged for transportation, was found in the van.
– The total weight of the cannabis seized was 10kg, with an estimated value between £40,000 and £50,000.
Both Spahiu and Havalja, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to cannabis production and possession with intent to supply cannabis. The court learned that Havalja had entered the UK illegally from Albania and was to be paid £1,000 for moving the cannabis into the van. Spahiu, who also entered illegally, claimed he was working to pay off his transportation debt in the country.
During sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Matthew Porter-Bryant stated, “This was a significantly large operation utilised to make significant sums.” Spahiu received an 11-month sentence, while Havalja was sentenced to 13 months in prison.
Noteworthy mentions:
– Spahiu and Havalja, illegal immigrants, admitted to cannabis production and possession.
– The Judge called the operation significant and sentencing led to prison terms.
– Havalja was due to receive £1,000 for moving cannabis.
– Both individuals entered the UK illegally.
This incident sheds light on the prevalence of illegal activities in the city and the measures authorities are taking to address the issue.
