Two brothers, Matthew and Luke Roe, have been found guilty of murder for beating an 85-year-old convicted sex offender to death and abandoning his body at the roadside.
The victim, Henry Thwaites, had a history of sexual offenses against boys under the age of 16 and was acquainted with the brothers’ mother. The tragic incident took place near a country estate in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, in July 2022.
Following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court, the jury convicted both Matthew, aged 25, and Luke, aged 34, of the murder. They are scheduled to be sentenced on 5 June.

According to the trial proceedings, a few days prior to his death, Mr. Thwaites had traveled from his home in Kent to Worksop to visit the brothers’ mother. He had intended to purchase a £600 Suzuki car for her, as well as agreed to buy a Mercedes for both Matthew and Luke.
On the day of the incident, while en route to inspect a vehicle, their Fiat car was captured by cameras turning onto Lime Tree Avenue around 22:40 BST. It is believed that Mr. Thwaites was fatally attacked at this location.
The court learned that he was forcibly removed from the vehicle and subjected to a fatal beating. The perpetrators then disposed of his body beneath a metal fence, where it was discovered the following morning by a passing motorist.
