Brits ‘overwhelmed’ by gadgets and would pay premium for single all-in-one device

Brits would be willing to pay a premium for a single all-in-one device to simplify their electronic usage, a study of 2,000 office workers has revealed. The research, commissioned by HONOR, found that the average office worker relies on three devices – a laptop, a tablet, and at least one mobile phone – to navigate through their daily tasks. While 31 per cent of participants believe their electronic gadgets have improved their lives, 18 per cent feel that technology has taken over their everyday life, causing them to be overwhelmed.

The study also uncovered that 18 per cent of respondents are eager to reduce their reliance on multiple devices and regain control. With the rise of hybrid working, where individuals split their time between home and the office, the number of gadgets carried has increased. The survey showed that 71 per cent of hybrid workers now need to carry more tech due to their work set-up. Additionally, 10 per cent of individuals feel they possess ‘too many’ devices, with 39 per cent wishing they could streamline the number of tech items they transport to work.

Half of the surveyed individuals (51 per cent) admitted they would be willing to invest extra money in a single device that could replace multiple gadgets. The research highlighted that young adults aged 18 to 24 feel the pressure of device dependency the most, with 45 per cent feeling overwhelmed by constant notifications. A significant portion of this age group, 32 per cent, expressed a desire to reduce their reliance on their devices.

In response to the findings, a spokesperson for HONOR emphasised that technology should enhance lives, not dominate them. They stated, “Having to carry around multiple devices and receiving notifications from each one seemingly every few minutes, it’s no wonder so many feel overwhelmed. It certainly doesn’t need to be that way.” The spokesperson added that the study revealed the potential for tech to offer a solution to the problem of feeling overwhelmed by excessive gadgets.

In conclusion, the research underscores the growing desire for a simpler, more consolidated tech experience among consumers. As individuals juggle multiple devices and notifications daily, there is a clear appetite for a single, all-encompassing device that can meet various needs efficiently and effectively.
