British couple die in Majorca after being ‘swept away in flash flood’

A tragic incident involving a British couple has left the community in mourning after they were reportedly swept away in a flash flood in a mountainous area of Majorca. The bodies of Sarah Thompson and her boyfriend Alexander Barrett were discovered following a search and rescue operation by Spanish authorities earlier this month. The couple, believed to be from the Greater Manchester area, were caught in the aftermath of storms that hit the region on September 3.

Miss Thompson’s body was found on September 4, with Mr. Barrett’s body located two days later on September 6. Tributes have poured in for the pair, with friends and former colleagues remembering them fondly. The Good Rebel bar in Stockport, where Sarah Thompson used to work, shared heartfelt words on Instagram, describing her as a vibrant and integral part of their establishment.

Similarly, the climbing gym Awesome Walls in Stockport, where Alexander Barrett was an instructor, paid tribute to the couple, highlighting their passion for climbing. Friends and family have organised a memorial in Stockport’s Woodbank and Vernon Park to honour the couple. The Spanish Civil Guard reported that the couple was on a trail through a canyon leading to the sea when the sudden storm hit the island of Majorca.

Emergency services conducted a search near the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains, where the bodies were eventually recovered. At the time of the incident, the Balearic Islands and a significant portion of Spain’s eastern coast were on high alert due to strong winds and heavy rains. The tragic loss of the British couple has deeply affected those who knew them, and tributes continue to pour in to remember their lives and the legacy they leave behind.
