Bristol Airport Announces Major Expansion Plans
Bristol Airport is set to undergo further expansion following a significant £60 million overhaul of its facilities. Chief executive Dave Lees has revealed plans to expand the airport, which is currently in the midst of a £400 million investment programme aimed at enhancing the customer experience. The ongoing development includes the construction of a new car park for 2,000 vehicles and an expansion of the departure lounge by 70%.

He noted the resurgence in air travel post-pandemic, citing a strong desire among people to reconnect with friends and family globally.
Acknowledging the potential challenges, Lees mentioned the efforts to collaborate with North Somerset Council and the combined authority to improve road access to the airport, particularly addressing congestion on the A38. Opposition to further expansion is anticipated, with groups like the Bristol Airport Action Network having previously opposed the increase in passenger numbers.
Notably, Bristol Airport remains the UK’s largest regional airport without a rail link. The absence of a rail connection raises concerns about increased traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
