A beloved young boy named Morgan Ridler, who captured the hearts of his city and community, is being honoured in a special way following his passing. Morgan, who tragically lost his battle with a rare form of cancer in June 2023, was diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma at the tender age of two in October 2021. Despite his short life, Morgan’s impact has been profound, leading to the creation of the Morgan’s Army Charitable Foundation. This foundation aims to support families of children with cancer in South Wales through various initiatives and major projects for children’s cancer charities. To commemorate his memory, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Pobl’s Pencefnarda Farm development, celebrating the completion of the first homes on-site and the unveiling of a new street sign bearing his name, ‘Ffordd Morgan’.
Morgan’s mother, Natalie Ridler, expressed her gratitude for this lasting tribute to her son, highlighting how much he meant to the community during his time with them. The community, after consulting with local residents, councillors, and Swansea Council, collectively agreed to name the street ‘Ffordd Morgan’ as a fitting tribute to the young boy who was cherished by many. The development at Pencefnarda Farm, delivered by J G Hale Ltd, will offer 44 homes with a local lettings policy in place to benefit individuals with strong ties to the community. In addition to the street naming, Pobl will sponsor new kits for Gorseinon Rugby Club featuring the Morgan’s Army logo and support ‘MorgsFest’25’, a fundraising event set to take place in May to honour Morgan’s memory.
Adam Roberts, Head of Development West at Pobl Group, emphasised the importance of creating communities, not just homes, and expressed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring Morgan’s legacy endures. Similarly, Graham Hale, Construction Director at J G Hale Ltd, highlighted their dedication to building not only homes but thriving communities, echoing the sentiment of honouring Morgan through this development. The community spirit and support for Morgan’s Army continue to flourish, with plans for the upcoming festival in May expected to bring people together for a weekend of music, food, and family-friendly activities while raising essential funds for the charitable foundation.
The impact of Morgan’s story goes beyond his family and friends, resonating with the wider community and inspiring acts of kindness and generosity. Through the collective effort of individuals, local businesses, and community organisations, Morgan’s memory will endure, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit those in need. As the unveiling of ‘Ffordd Morgan’ stands as a poignant reminder of the young boy who touched many lives, it serves as a symbol of hope, resilience, and unity within the community. With each home at the Pencefnarda Farm development carrying a piece of Morgan’s spirit, residents are poised to embrace a sense of belonging and camaraderie, echoing the values of love and tenacity embodied by Morgan during his time in Gorseinon.
