A treasured pet tortoise named Sesame has been stolen from a family in Neath, Wales, leaving them heartbroken. The beloved tortoise had been a cherished member of the Thatcher family for an incredible 43 years before he mysteriously disappeared from their garden at Leiros Parc Drive earlier this week. Ann Thatcher, who has lovingly cared for Sesame for decades, expressed shock and devastation upon discovering that their beloved pet was missing.
Sesame, who was acquired from a pet shop in Canton, Cardiff, for a mere £5, has played a significant role in the family, with Ann’s eldest daughter naming him after the famous TV show Sesame Street. Ann shared that Sesame holds a special place in their hearts and is considered a beloved member of their family. Whenever Ann’s grandchildren come to visit, they always spend time interacting with Sesame, highlighting the deep bond they share with the tortoise.
For the past 40 years, Sesame has resided in the family’s secure garden at Leiros Parc Drive, Neath. However, on the morning of April 21, Ann and her husband were shocked to find that the box where Sesame lived had been opened, and their dear pet was nowhere to be seen. This unexpected disappearance has left the family devastated, especially considering the unique care requirements that Sesame has.
According to Ann, Sesame, who is estimated to be around 75 years old, necessitates a high level of attention and care. The family has pointed out that caring for a tortoise like Sesame involves more than meets the eye, with specific dietary needs and medical attention. Last year, Sesame had to undergo treatment at the vet due to shell issues, indicating the level of care and responsibility involved in nurturing a pet tortoise.
