BBC Strictly star Amy Dowden’s show future confirmed as replacement unveiled

Amy Dowden’s future on the popular TV show, Strictly Come Dancing, has been confirmed by the BBC as a replacement dancer is unveiled. The Welsh professional dancer, aged 34, had to withdraw from the ongoing competition on medical advice, leading to her celebrity partner being paired with a new dancer. This unfortunate development comes after Amy bravely battled breast cancer in 2023, forcing her to sit out that series. However, earlier this year, she received a clean bill of health from doctors after undergoing intensive treatment.

Amy was all set to make her comeback this season and had partnered with singer JB Gill from JLS. The duo had been showing great potential on the dancefloor. Unfortunately, a health scare arose when Amy collapsed after a performance and had to be hospitalised. Despite her improving condition, Lauren Oakley, another professional dancer aged 33, stepped in to dance with JB in Amy’s absence.

It has now been officially announced that Amy will not be returning to the competition due to medical advice recommending against her participation. In a statement to Reach, a Strictly representative said, “Sadly, Amy Dowden MBE will not be partaking in the rest of the competition this year. While Amy focuses on her recovery following a foot injury, fellow professional dancer Lauren Oakley will step in as JB’s dance partner.”

During the latest episode of the show’s spin-off, It Takes Two, this decision was revealed. JB’s performance with Lauren on Saturday night earned them high praise from the judges, securing their place for the next round of the competition. In a touching gesture, JB dedicated their dance to Amy, expressing his support for his absent partner.

Amy later expressed her gratitude towards Lauren for filling in for her, stating, “I am so grateful to you Lauren. Thank you Lauren, thank you J, you too are just amazing. I just wish I was there with you.” The BBC show continues to captivate audiences with its mix of drama and dazzling performances.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturdays and Sundays, while the spin-off show, It Takes Two, can be watched on BBC Two on weeknights. The health and well-being of all those involved in the show are a top priority for the Strictly team, and they have sent their love and well-wishes to Amy during this challenging time. The whole Strictly family wishes her a speedy recovery and hopes to see her back on the dancefloor in the future.
