BBC DJ, 40, dies after year-long battle with cancer as wife pays tribute

A cherished BBC DJ, aged 40, has tragically passed away following a year-long battle with a rare form of cancer. Danny Stubbs, known for his contributions to the music industry, succumbed to oesophageal adenocarcinoma. His devoted wife, Danielle, expressed her heartfelt tribute to the talented music producer, highlighting his strength and determination throughout his illness. Despite the challenges they faced, she recounted how Danny remained resilient, showing incredible courage until the very end.

Hailing from Chell Heath in Stoke-on-Trent, Danny’s career as a DJ took him to prestigious venues worldwide, including Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound. His talent also graced the airwaves of BBC radio and led to collaborations with renowned artists like U2 and Ariana Grande, as well as Paul Oakenfold. Danielle fondly remembered Danny as a beautiful soul, and their love story began when they were neighbours in Nantwich in 2019, blossoming into a deep connection that endured through difficult times.

In August 2023, Danny received the devastating news of a Stage 4 oesophageal adenocarcinoma diagnosis, a rare and aggressive cancer that had already metastasized. Initially presenting with seemingly harmless symptoms such as acid reflux, hiccups, and swallowing difficulties, the disease quickly progressed beyond treatment options. Despite the grim prognosis, Danny and Danielle chose to embrace life to the fullest, getting engaged amidst the turmoil and organizing a whirlwind wedding within 12 weeks.

Throughout his battle, Danny’s indomitable spirit shone brightly, evident in his active pursuits like skiing during their honeymoon and participating in marathons and mountain treks. Danielle recalled his unwavering determination to defy medical expectations, embodying a spirit of resilience and positivity. His untimely passing on August 24 at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans. As they prepare to bid him farewell in Crewe, Danielle expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and love they have received.
