BBC commentator’s daughter was tied to a chair and shot with crossbow, court hears

A shocking incident involving the daughter of a BBC commentator being tied to a chair and shot with a crossbow has come to light in court. Kyle Clifford appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice following the tragic event in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on July 9.

The court heard that Clifford has been charged with three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and possession of offensive weapons – a crossbow and a 10-inch butcher’s knife. The victims identified were Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and their daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25. It was revealed that Louise was found tied to a chair when the authorities arrived at the family home in Ashlyn Close.

Hannah Hunt, who survived the attack, called the police and expressed fear for her life as she, along with her sister and mother, had been shot with a crossbow. Clifford, 26, was found injured in Lavender Hill Cemetery in Enfield, north London, and was taken to a trauma centre for treatment, where he remains.

District Judge Paul Goldspring remanded Clifford in custody pending a hearing at the High Court, and highlighted that the charges of murder and false imprisonment can only be heard at the crown court. The defendant was charged with the murders of Hannah Hunt, Carol Hunt, and Louise Hunt in Bushey. Additionally, he faces charges of possession of a crossbow, a butcher’s knife, and false imprisonment.

Clifford, of Rendlesham Road, Enfield, has been in police custody since July 10. The devastating incident involving the Hunt family has left the community in shock, with John Hunt and his daughter Amy releasing a statement conveying the profound impact of the tragedy.

The case has been sent to the Central Criminal Court at the Royal Courts of Justice where Clifford is set to appear for further proceedings. The circumstances surrounding the attack are deeply disturbing, and the judicial system will now seek to bring justice for the victims and their family in this heartbreaking case.
