In a significant drug bust next to shops and businesses on a bustling street in Carmarthen, almost £1 million worth of cannabis was discovered. The raid, carried out in King Street in the town centre, revealed 930 cannabis plants growing within a sophisticated hydroponic setup. The estimated street value of the seized plants amounts to £870,000.
The police arrested thirty-year-old Jurgen Kodra after the raid, and he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court where he admitted to producing a controlled class B drug. Kodra, who currently has no fixed address, has been remanded in custody pending his sentencing at Swansea Crown Court on November 14. Following this discovery, residents in King Street and surrounding areas can expect heightened police activity as the investigation unfolds.
Detective Sergeant Richard Saunders stated, “We are dedicated to making our community inhospitable to organised groups involved in illegal drug production and distribution. Our operations in Carmarthen have successfully removed a significant amount of cannabis from the streets. Dyfed-Powys Police will continue to target drug suppliers and related criminal activities within our community.”
Saunders urged the local community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to cannabis cultivation, such as peculiar odours emanating from properties, unusual noise stemming from ventilation systems, blacked-out windows, unusual patterns of people or vehicles at odd hours, continuous bright lighting in seemingly vacant properties, excessive condensation on windows, atypical wiring indicating meter tampering, and the presence of materials like plant pots, fertilisers, compost, and chemicals. Any information, regardless of how trivial it may seem, could prove crucial in combating drug-related criminal activities.
The police have encouraged residents to report any such activities online, via email at [email protected], through social media direct messages, or by calling 101. This proactive involvement from the community can make a significant impact in maintaining the safety and security of Carmarthen.
The discovery of this large-scale cannabis operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes and underscores the importance of community cooperation in keeping neighbourhoods safe. Such collaborative efforts between law enforcement and residents are essential in upholding the law and ensuring the well-being of individuals in the community.
