Citywide road closures will be in place for the Cardiff 10K event happening this Sunday, September 1. Cardiff is preparing for thousands of runners to hit the streets for the popular 10K race, which first started in 1986. With 7,000 participants expected, this year’s event is set to be the biggest in its 38-year history. The route offers runners a tour of Wales’ capital on a flat and fast path.
To ensure the safety of the runners, Cardiff Council has arranged rolling road closures in the city centre. The setup for the event will see the Civic Centre closed from 7am on Saturday, August 31, until 6pm on Sunday, September 1. On the day of the event, road closures will be enforced from 9am to 1pm along various streets including North Road, Kingsway, Duke Street, Cowbridge Road East, and many more.
In addition to road closures, a lane closure will be in place on Western Avenue, and traffic management stewards will control access to certain areas. Train users heading to Cardiff have been advised of rail maintenance affecting the Rhymney and Coryton lines on August 31 and September 1, with a rail replacement service available.
For more detailed information on the road closures throughout the city, individuals can visit the Cardiff Council website. Whether participating in the event, cheering on runners, or visiting Cardiff, it’s essential to be aware of the travel disruptions and plan accordingly.
