The autumn international series for the Wales rugby team is set to commence at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on November 10th, with the first match against Fiji. Cardiff City Council will implement extensive road closures across the city to accommodate the influx of fans expected during the series, which also includes matches against Australia and South Africa. To alleviate traffic congestion, the council has advised on alternative travel options, including a list of available car parks.
On match day, the city centre will experience significant disruptions, with full road closures starting from 9.30am until 5.40pm, ensuring the safety of all spectators entering and exiting the stadium. Various roads, including Kingsway, Cowbridge Road East, and Tudor Street, will be closed entirely, along with partial closures on several other streets. Public transportation services, including trains and buses, will be operational with additional capacity provided, but fans are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys.
For those driving to the event, park & ride facilities will be available at Toy’s R Us in the Sports Village, Cardiff Bay, with shuttle buses running between the site and the city centre. Event day parking options include Sophia Gardens and the Civic Centre, with designated areas for cars and coaches. Cyclists and pedestrians are advised to use cycleways and footpaths within the road closure zone, while public transport services will be diverted accordingly.
For disabled attendees, parking facilities are accessible at Sophia Gardens, and taxi services will be rerouted during the road closures. Cardiff Council has also highlighted alternative parking options in the city centre, such as North Road Car Parks and St David’s Shopping Centre. Additionally, National Express coaches will operate as usual from Sophia Gardens.
The council emphasises the importance of adhering to parking regulations and ensuring the safety of personal belongings when utilizing public parking facilities. Information on bus diversions, cycling and walking routes, and city centre parking locations are available on the relevant transport operator’s websites. The measures are put in place to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees during the autumn internationals in Cardiff.
