A 10 room cannabis factory has been discovered in Cardiff by Western Power Distribution engineers while investigating “several” unexplained power cuts.

A number of complaints in the past few months regarding power cuts in the Grangetown area have caused Western Power to investigate but were unable to find any faults on the network

Little did the workers know they know they were about to stumble upon a Cannabis factory worth an estimated £800,000.

South Wales Police later raided premises on Ferry Road at around 9am on Thursday, January 28, and confirmed they recovered 100 plants from the premises which was spread across 10 rooms.

Three men nearby were arrested on suspicion on the production of cannabis.

A South Wales Police spokesperson stated : “At around 9.15am on Thursday January 28, a report was made to South Wales Police by Western Power Distribution that they believed that they had discovered a cannabis factory at a premises in Ferry Road, Grangetown, Cardiff.

“Officers attended and three men aged 27, 28 and 31 were arrested nearby on suspicion of production of cannabis. All three have been released under investigation.

“Inside the property were 10 rooms with more than 1,000 plants with an approximate street value of £800,000. Enquiries are ongoing.”

A Western Power Distributions spokesperson for stated: “We were made aware of several power cuts in the area over recent months, during several investigations we were unable to find any fault on our network.

“This week, police requested our attendance at the site. Some work was required to make the electrical installation safe for officers to carry out their investigation.

“We will be carrying out additional work starting next week to further reinforce the supplies in the area.”
