Female police officer carried out sex attacks and told victim ‘I know the law, you need to say yes,’ court told

A female police officer has been accused of carrying out two sex attacks on another woman, allegedly telling her, “I know the law, you need to say yes,” a court heard. Police Constable Fiona Anderson, 32, faces charges of sexually assaulting a woman she met on the dating site Tinder. The alleged assaults, which occurred in 2018, involved the touching of naked genitalia and were said to have taken place while both parties were intoxicated. During the assault, Anderson reportedly displayed controlling behaviour towards the woman, insisting that she needed to agree because she purportedly “knew the law.”

Anderson, who was not on duty with Devon and Cornwall Police at the time of the alleged offences, has pleaded not guilty to the two sexual assault charges. She has been suspended from duty by the force since her initial arrest. The case has been referred to the crown court, with Anderson set to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on October 14th. She remains on conditional bail.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the charges against Anderson and clarified that the incidents took place in Cardiff in 2018 while she was off duty. Anderson was first arrested and bailed in March 2023 and has remained suspended from duty ever since.

The alleged victim’s identity has been protected, and Anderson, of Exeter, Devon, remains adamant about her innocence. The court proceedings shed light on the serious nature of the accusations levelled against a serving police officer, raising concerns about abuse of authority and trust. The upcoming trial will be closely watched as the legal process unfolds to determine the facts of the case.

The chilling details of the alleged assaults have sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community and the public at large. As the case progresses through the judicial system, the gravity of the accusations and the implications for all involved will no doubt continue to draw widespread attention.

This case not only raises questions about the conduct and accountability of those entrusted with upholding the law but also underscores the importance of thorough investigations and due process in cases of sexual assault. As the legal proceedings move forward, the pursuit of justice and truth in this matter remains paramount.
