Tropical storm heading for tourist resorts with 8inches of rain

A tropical storm is set to bring heavy rainfall to tourist hotspots, with wind speeds increasing as it approaches landfall. Tropical Storm Ileana has developed off the Pacific coast of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Centre. The storm is projected to pass over or near the resort-rich area of Los Cabos, located on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Currently, Ileana is positioned approximately 240 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, with sustained winds at 40mph. The storm is anticipated to intensify over the next day.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for sections of the Baja California peninsula, including Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. Meteorologists forecast between 4 to 6 inches of rainfall with Ileana, potentially reaching up to 8 inches in coastal regions of Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco states by early Friday. The hurricane centre expects Ileana to cross the state of Baja California Sur on Friday and enter the Gulf of California by early Saturday. As of Thursday, Tropical Storm Ileana was the sole active tropical storm in the National Weather Service’s Eastern Pacific basin.

In contrast, the Atlantic basin has seen post-tropical cyclone Francine causing heavy rains in parts of the southern United States. Meanwhile, a tropical depression is moving over the open seas west of the Cabo Verde islands. These weather phenomena are being closely monitored for potential impacts.
