BMW driver admits causing death of ‘deeply cherished and loved’ young man

A BMW driver has admitted to causing the death of a “deeply cherished and loved” young man in a tragic road accident. Roger Brenninkmeyer, aged 60, appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charge of causing the death of Droy Darroch-York in a crash that took place on the B4354 between Y Ffor and Fron on the Llyn Peninsula on June 4, 2022.

During the court hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, Brenninkmeyer, who resides on Hinderton Road in Neston, Wirral, entered his guilty plea to the offence of causing death by dangerous driving. The defendant appeared via video link, and the prosecutor informed the court that the defence had requested a pre-sentence report. Additionally, a psychiatric report had been commissioned by the defence.

His Honour Timothy Petts, presiding judge at Llandudno Magistrates Court, granted an adjournment, setting the date for sentencing on November 27. Despite the impending formal sentencing, the judge made it clear to Brenninkmeyer that a prison sentence was inevitable. The defendant was also informed of a driving disqualification that would be part of his sentence.

Droy Darroch-York, the victim of the fatal accident, was described by his family as a happy, outgoing, and hardworking individual. He was employed at Tafarn Yr Heliwr and had recently completed a bricklaying course. His family shared that he was deeply cherished and loved by his girlfriend, with whom he had plans for their first holiday abroad. Darroch-York was a devoted family member with diverse interests such as fishing, music, socialising with friends, and outdoor activities like camping and walking.

The tragic loss of Droy Darroch-York has left his loved ones devastated, highlighting the impact of dangerous driving and the importance of road safety. The community mourns the loss of a young life full of promise and potential. As the legal process unfolds, Brenninkmeyer faces the consequences of his actions, reminding drivers of the crucial need for responsible and safe behaviour on the roads.
