A tragic incident unfolded in Swansea as an inquest revealed that a six-year-old boy allegedly killed by his mother, Alexander Zurawski, died from a significant neck injury. The young boy’s body was discovered at a property in the Gendros area of Swansea on August 29. The inquest, presided over by Aled Gruffydd, assistant coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, heard that Alexander suffered a substantial neck injury and blood loss.
David Butt, a detective inspector at South Wales Police’s Major Crime Investigations Team, provided evidence stating that paramedics and police officers responded to concerns raised by local residents at Cwm Du Close. The preliminary cause of death, determined after a post-mortem examination, was identified as a “complex sharp force injury to the neck area.”
The inquest was adjourned due to ongoing legal proceedings involving Alexander’s mother, Karolina Zurawska, who faces charges of murder and the attempted murder of her father. Zurawska appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court and subsequently at Swansea Crown Court. The family of Alexander described him as a kind, intelligent, and helpful child who enjoyed playing with his sister and their dog.
The inquest into Alexander’s death has yet to conclude, with Assistant Coroner Mr Gruffydd deferring proceedings until the criminal investigation progresses further. Gruffydd announced, “I open the inquest into the death of Alexander Zurawski and adjourn the matter until a time where the criminal investigation has run its course.”
This heartbreaking case has deeply affected the Swansea community, as the details of the incident continue to emerge. The family’s tribute to Alexander highlights the impact of this tragedy and serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting those affected by such devastating events. The inquest will continue to seek answers and justice for Alexander as the legal process unfolds.
