After nearly six weeks of searching, a body was discovered in the hunt for Marcus Barter, who vanished at the beginning of August. Mr Barter was last spotted on Coed y Caerau Lane in Newport on August 1. Despite thorough efforts from the public and authorities, his family sadly announced his demise on September 9.

Details uncover that Mr Barter, hailing from Newport, was last captured on CCTV walking along Coed y Caerau Lane in Newport around 2.30 pm on Thursday, August 1. His abandoned car was found near the top of Wentwood, an old forest adjacent to the lane. His mobile phone was left behind in the vehicle, with the final call made an hour after he was last seen on CCTV. The call was traced to the mast at the top of Wentwood where his vehicle was located.

The emotional ordeal intensified when on August 16, his family, in collaboration with Gwent Police, initiated a significant public plea to locate the father of one. This past weekend, Marcus Barter’s family confirmed the devastating news that his body was found.

Mr Barter’s brother, Simon Barter, who led the search efforts, expressed, “It is with the deepest of sadness that we are in a position to say that sadly Marcus is no longer with us. The family are asking for peace and space to feel their grief and come to terms with our horrific loss.”

He continued, “As much as sympathy messages are appreciated, we ask that they are not sent to the family at this painful time. If you wish to lay flowers, the family have started to place flowers at Wentwood bluebells as this holds a place of so many good memories of Marcus.”
