British Prisoner Escapes Portuguese Jail
A British prisoner, Mark Cameron Roscaleer, aged 39, has escaped from a high-security prison in Portugal. Roscaleer, along with four other inmates, orchestrated their bold escape from the Vale de Judeus prison, approximately 43 miles north of Lisbon, on Saturday, September 7. The escape plan involved climbing over a wall using a ladder, with suspicions of receiving assistance from outside, as reported by the Portuguese prison service.

The escape occurred around 10 am local time on Saturday, involving Roscaleer, two Portuguese men, an Argentinian, and a Georgian national. The Portuguese men faced 25-year prison terms for crimes like drug trafficking, criminal association, and kidnapping. The rest of the escapees had charges ranging from theft to robbery and kidnapping.

The escapees include Fernando Ferreira, 61, serving time for drug trafficking, theft, robbery, and kidnapping, and Fabio Loureiro, 33, imprisoned for extortion, theft, and money laundering. Additionally, Rodolf Lohrmann, an Argentinian, faced charges of theft, robbery, and money laundering, and Shergili Farjiani from Georgia was convicted of violent crimes and forgery.
Frederico Morais, president of the National Union of Prison Guards (SNCGP), warned the public about encountering the escapees, especially Roscaleer, labelling him “very dangerous.” The ongoing manhunt continues to locate the fugitives and return them to custody.
