TV star describes moment she screamed for help on Welsh beach after snapping leg

TV Star Rescued After Snapping Leg on Welsh Beach

A TV puppeteer, Emily Morus-Jones, recently found herself in a harrowing situation when she fractured her leg while jogging along the Menai Strait in north Wales. Emily fell on rocks on the Strait, breaking her knee and fracturing her leg. She was running onto the foreshore at the Faenol Estate in Bangor when the accident occurred, leaving her in need of help with only her dogs by her side.

  • Emily described the moment of the accident, saying her knee inverted, propelling her into the air and causing her to scream in agony for about half an hour.
  • Despite the tide coming in quickly, Emily attempted to crawl back to the path for help but was immobilized by the excruciating pain.
  • Thankfully, she managed to get a mobile signal to call for assistance.

Teams from Penmon Coastguards, Bangor Coastguard, and Beaumaris RNLI Lifeboat came to Emily’s rescue. She was located 800 meters south of the A55 Britannia Bridge and was carefully extricated to Menai Bridge Pier. Due to a lack of available land ambulances, Emily was then taken to Beaumaris Boathouse to wait for medical help.

“As I was soaking, they found some dry clothes at the Boathouse, propped my leg up on lifejackets and kept checking up on me. Some could have gone but they stayed with me for three or four hours while I waited for an ambulance. They even put up with my stupid jokes.”

Emily discovered at Ysbyty Gwynedd that she had broken her knee in two places and had several leg fractures. This unfortunate incident threatens to disrupt her freelance career as the UK’s only female TV puppeteer, who has worked for various well-known clients.

  • Emily designs, builds, and performs puppets for TV and film, with notable clients like CBBC, Sky 1, Netflix, and more.
  • She has also contributed to music videos for artists such as Iron Maiden, Calvin Harris, and Dua Lipa.
  • Last year, Emily won the Bafta Cymru Breakthrough award for her self-produced short film, “Diomysus: More Than Monogamy.”

This incident, which happened on a Welsh beach, serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of being prepared for emergencies, even during routine activities like jogging. Emily’s resilience and the assistance she received from rescue teams highlight the crucial role of emergency responders in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in distress.
