Inquest starts into death of man after appearing on Jeremy Kyle show

The inquest into the tragic death of Steve Dymond, who passed away after appearing on the Jeremy Kyle Show, is set to commence. Mr. Dymond, from Portsmouth, Hampshire, is believed to have taken his own life seven days after participating in the ITV programme in May 2019. A key event during the show was Mr. Dymond’s lie detector test, which took place following allegations of infidelity by his ex-fiancee, Jane Callaghan from Gosport.

Mr. Dymond’s cause of death was determined to be an overdose and heart issues at his residence in Portsmouth, as disclosed during a preliminary hearing in 2020. The full inquest is scheduled to be held at Winchester Coroner’s Court. Reports from a pre-inquest review revealed that Mr. Dymond’s brother and son emphasized the extreme stress Mr. Dymond was under post-recording, suggesting he was on the verge of collapse.

Coroner Jason Pegg previously highlighted Jeremy Kyle’s demeaning remarks towards Mr. Dymond, labelling him a “serial liar” and expressing distrust towards him. The inquest will critically examine Mr. Dymond’s involvement with the show and his personal circumstances. It will explore his mental state post-show, including the lie detector test and the support provided, involving scrutiny of the production company and ITV’s role.

Additionally, the inquest will delve into Mr. Dymond’s mental health background and will assess footage from a Channel 4 documentary related to his passing. Notably, the coroner has deemed Jeremy Kyle an interested person in the inquiry due to potential contribution to Mr. Dymond’s death. Other stakeholders mentioned include members of Mr. Dymond’s family, ITV, and his GP. The inquest is projected to span until September 10, aiming to shed light on the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event.
