Michael Sheen’s ‘sadness’ at becoming a dad in his 50s

Michael Sheen, the renowned Hollywood star from Port Talbot, has opened up about his feelings of sadness at becoming a father again in his 50s. Sheen, 55, shares a 25-year-old daughter, Lily Sheen, with his ex-partner Kate Beckinsale, and now has two young daughters, aged five and two, with his current partner Anna Lundberg. Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, Sheen expressed his concerns about potentially missing out on precious time with his young daughters due to his age, stating, “It makes me sad, thinking about the time I won’t have with them.”

Reflecting on the physical challenges of being an older dad, Sheen commented, “My body feels very old. But everything else feels much younger. I’m 55 and it’s knackering running around after little kids.” Despite the fatigue, Sheen finds the experience liberating and appreciates it more at this stage in his life. He acknowledged the significance of being present for his younger children, citing his past co-parenting arrangement with Beckinsale for Lily as a learning experience that shaped his current commitments.

Having been away for Lily’s upbringing due to work commitments in his early 30s, Sheen revealed his regret at not being more present and involved. Determined to avoid a similar situation with his younger daughters, Sheen has adjusted his work priorities and established a Welsh production company to stay closer to home. He emphasised the importance of being around more for his children this time, highlighting a shift in his approach to balancing his career and family responsibilities.

Sheen’s candid reflections provide insight into the complexities and joys of parenting at an older age, as he navigates the challenges and rewards of fatherhood with a renewed perspective. The actor’s commitment to balancing his professional endeavors with family life reflects a heartfelt desire to cherish the moments with his young daughters and create lasting memories with his loved ones.
