Man, 21, jailed over single punch in street that changed victim’s life forever

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to jail for a violent attack in Wrexham that left the victim with life-changing injuries. Brandon Morris, hailing from Kingsway in Chester, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with malice aforethought. The assault occurred in Wrexham city centre in the early hours of Sunday, December 10 last year.

The victim, who was knocked unconscious by a single punch from Morris, had to undergo surgery at Stoke Hospital to address a brain injury and subsequent bleeding and bruising. The victim sustained a fractured skull, and a blood clot was discovered on the brain, leading to the removal of part of the skull to alleviate pressure.

In response to the incident, Detective Constable Danielle Craig stated, “This sentence demonstrates the seriousness of a single punch, and the devastating consequences it can have.” She highlighted the unnecessary and violent nature of the attack, which resulted in life-altering injuries for the victim. The victim, originally a young man with a successful career and aspirations, is now unable to work, suffers memory loss, and requires further surgery due to the attack.

Morris received a 16-month sentence at Mold Crown Court on August 29 for his actions. The North Wales Police emphasised the significance of the case as a cautionary tale against assaulting others. Detective Constable Craig expressed hope that this sentencing would send a strong message to potential offenders contemplating similar violent acts.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the severe repercussions that a single act of violence can have on individuals’ lives. The victim, who was simply going about their day, now faces a long road to recovery and adjustment to a new way of life due to the senseless attack in Wrexham.

Such incidents underscore the importance of accountability and the need to address violence in communities to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals. It is crucial for individuals to consider the potentially devastating impacts of their actions and choose non-violent resolutions to conflicts to prevent such tragic outcomes in the future.
