A new adventure playground is set to transform Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot, as part of a £200,000 project aiming to attract families from near and far. The playground, funded by Neath Port Talbot Council, will include a zip wire, play tower, climbing walls, and various play equipment such as swings and a carousel. The highlight of the playground will be the Ocean Giant play tower, standing at 8.9 metres high and surrounded by nautical-themed features like dolphins and shells.
The playground will not only offer exciting play opportunities for children aged 6-12 but will also include new safety measures and facilities for inclusivity. The installation work, expected to take around eight weeks, will commence after the demolition of the old playground next week. Cabinet members Scott Jones and Cen Phillips expressed their excitement for the project, highlighting its potential to boost tourism and the local economy.
“Our vision for this attraction was to create a play area aimed at 6-12-year-olds centred around a real ‘wow factor’ centrepiece which would attract families from near and far to visit this stunning location and to spend an extended period of time exploring and enjoying a new play experience,” said Scott Jones. Meanwhile, Cen Phillips emphasized the playground’s role in attracting families and enhancing public spaces in Aberavon Seafront.
The Aberavon Beach adventure playground is part of the council’s ‘green up and clean up’ initiative, aiming to provide high-quality public areas for the community’s enjoyment. With the promise of a fun-filled and innovative play environment, the new playground is poised to become a popular destination for families for years to come.
