**Alan Sheehan Awaits Decision on Future at Swansea City After Positive Interim Spell**
Alan Sheehan is set to discover his long-term future at Swansea City next week, following constructive discussions with the club regarding a permanent managerial role. The Irishman has been serving as interim boss since February, succeeding Luke Williams, and his stewardship has overseen a noticeable uplift in the Swans’ form.
Since stepping into the role, Sheehan has made no secret of his desire to continue as the club’s permanent manager. His recent run of positive results has undoubtedly strengthened his case, with the side accruing 23 points from 12 matches under his leadership – an indicator that has not gone unnoticed by the Swansea board.
Sheehan spoke candidly after Swansea’s narrow defeat away at Millwall, a result which officially ended any slim hopes the club had for a late push into the Championship play-off places. While disappointed with the outcome, Sheehan confirmed that recent talks with Swansea City’s director of football, Richard Montague, as well as the club’s owners, are progressing well.
“I can confirm that we have been talking for a bit, Richard and the ownership,” Sheehan revealed in his interview with the BBC. “It’s moving in a direction and we should have a conclusion to it all next week.” These words suggest a decision on his future is imminent, bringing clarity to both supporters and players before the summer break.
Despite the defeat at The Den, optimism remains high at the Swansea.com Stadium. The team’s strong record in recent weeks has contributed to positive energy around the club, even as the final whistle on this season approaches. Sheehan remains proud of his squad’s response, especially in challenging away fixtures, and continues to emphasise unity and effort.
Reflecting on the match, Sheehan noted, “In the first half, we didn’t control the madness. I felt like we were opening up and we were running fast away from a big chance. Second half, we made a few tactical tweaks and I think we gained control and had numerous opportunities to put the ball in the net.”
He went on to commend Millwall for their recent run of good form under Alex Neil, acknowledging the difficulty of facing such in-form opposition. “Credit to Millwall, they make it a very difficult place to come and they’ve got a bit of momentum. Alex Neil has done an excellent job and now they’re close to the play-offs, and you can feel that, but we wanted to give the best versions of ourselves. In the first half we didn’t do that, but in the second half I thought we did everything apart from score.”
While Swansea’s play-off chase may have fallen short, the transformation under Sheehan – both in results and in style of play – has provided hope for supporters. His willingness to make tactical adjustments and motivate his squad has been praised by observers and could well be pivotal in the board’s deliberations.
The Swans will complete their Championship campaign by welcoming Oxford United to south Wales next weekend. A positive result would further underline Sheehan’s credentials for the job, although, regardless of the outcome, all eyes are now on the pending boardroom decision.
As Swansea City seeks to build stability after a season of transition, many supporters and pundits alike will be watching with interest as the club prepares to announce its decision on Alan Sheehan’s position. For now, optimism abounds that his efforts might pave the way for a new era in the Liberty Stadium dugout.
