Dozens of people in Cardiff demonstrated incredible community spirit by forming a human chain to help a local shop owner move to new premises. The heart-warming scene unfolded at Iechyd Da self-serve wholefood shop in Whitchurch, where owner Alwen Lewis put out a call for assistance. Over 70 loyal customers responded, coming together to shift more than 200 boxes of stock and equipment to the shop’s new location just a few hundred yards away on Merthyr Road.
Alwen expressed her gratitude and amazement at the overwhelming support, stating that the entire process only took about an hour on a Sunday morning. The event showcased the kindness and unity within the community, leaving Alwen feeling thankful for the outpouring of help. The shop, which has been a staple on Merthyr Road for the past five years, now resides at 37 Merthyr Road in a larger space that will also offer gift items in addition to wholefoods.
The Iechyd Da shop allows customers to refill containers with various products, promoting sustainability and eco-friendly practices. With the increased space and expanded product range, Alwen is looking forward to opening the new shop to the public in the coming week. The heart-warming gesture of the human chain not only facilitated the shop’s relocation but also served as a touching example of community spirit and support in action.
